Cheap Car Insurance in NJ
NJ Insurance Requirements
Rates for insurance will vary by the vehicle make and model, the information about the driver and the violations on the driver’s record. The rates can also be affected by the type of insurance company you decide to talk with. There are preferred companies that offer many different tiers of coverage and services, standard companies which offer less tiers and services and then non-standard companies who offer even less services. Just because the non-standard companies don’t offer the same coverage and tiers as these other companies doesn’t mean that you can’t get the level of coverage and service that you need.
There are several non-standard insurance companies doing business in New Jersey. If you only need the state required minimum liability coverage for your needs, then there’s no reason not to purchase from a non-standard company. Automobile insurance is required by law in the state of New Jersey. There are two types of policies available in New Jersey and are referred to as a Standard Policy and a Basic Policy. The Basic Policy costs less than the Standard policy but it is not for everyone. It does not provide coverage, however $10,000 is available as an option for all persons in an accident. Most drivers in New Jersey select the Standard Policy for their auto insurance. The minimum liability insurance coverage is as follows:
- $15,000 for injury to a person
- $30,000 per accident if several people are injured
- $5,000 for property damage
- $15,000 for Personal Injury Protection
These limits are the state minimum requirements but drivers may also choose higher limits and additional coverage, such as physical damage for their vehicle and coverage for uninsured/underinsured motorists. Having additional coverage could protect you and your assets in the event of a serious accident.
